What is an attached patio cover?

An attached patio cover is fastened to your house on one side and stands on posts on the other. It mounts to the wall through the stucco into the structural framing, or to the fascia board at the roof edge. Because it shares the house's structure, what it fastens to has to be checked first: the studs behind the stucco, or the condition of the rafters behind the fascia. How it attaches is part of the engineering and the permit, and we handle both.

Three ways a cover attaches

Which one fits depends on your house, and it's settled at the free site visit.

  • To the wallA ledger fastened through the stucco into the structural studs. We locate the studs first, then patch the stucco around the mount.
  • To the fasciaMounted at the roof edge, for aluminum covers only. The rafters behind the fascia board have to be sound, so we check them before we design.
  • Off a second storyBalconies and upper floors can be covered too. The framing may need reinforcing to carry the posts, and that's engineered and permitted like the rest.

Why have us attach your cover

“It looks great and the room is significantly cooler during the day. It also didn't budge during the recent wind storms.”

Attached cover questions

Straight answers before your site visit.

Yes, for aluminum covers, if the rafters behind the fascia are in good shape. We check them at the site visit. If they aren't sound, the cover mounts to the wall instead, or stands on its own posts.

The mount goes through the stucco into the structural studs, so there's some stucco work around it. Our crew patches it as part of the job.

Price depends on the size, the roof type, the brand and how it attaches to your house. Quotes come from a free site visit and are good for 30 days. Financing is available through Hearth.

Yes. Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas and Clark County all require one, and how the cover attaches is part of what's reviewed. We pull the permit on every job.

Yes. Upper-floor covers are engineered for the extra load, and the balcony framing may need reinforcing before the posts go in. It's all part of the permit.

Attached is usually the choice when you want shade right off the house. Freestanding fits when the shade belongs out in the yard, by a pool or a seating area, or when the house can't take the attachment.
